The kindergarten is part of the overall reorganisation of the area, which involves the construction of some public school and sports facilities.
The area is characterised by the presence of an infrastructural wall that involves and redefines the relationships between the individual elements in the context.
The wall becomes an object of interpretation for the project, characterising the pedestrian walkway as a pedestal. The Kindergarten is primarily conceived as an infrastructural element that becomes an integral part of and concludes the elevated podium walkway. The building rests on the podium with the same expression by juxtaposing two new horizontal lines of the two floors of the School. These three parts have the same abstract language drawing three horizontal lines. From earth to sky the three lines gradually taper off. A pedestrian ramp connects the level of the future sports fields to the pedestrian walkway planned for the entrance to the School.

Überlegungen zum Projektantrag

Sinnvoller Einsatz von Beton
The building is a compact volume, organized on three floors. The concrete is the structure and the expression of the entire building that is exposed both internally and externally.
The east and west fronts of the School are glazed, expressing the horizontal linearity and reinforcing the transparent transversal connection between the park area and the sports fields. The north and south fronts are instead blind and define the head and the conclusion of the architectural body.
Materialspezifische Innovationen
To create the particular dovetail shapes present in the concrete cores, we initially designed the shapes in 3D, then we discussed and had polystyrene shapes produced that would create the “negative” for these shapes and could be used as formwork.
Interdisziplinäre Ansätze
The additional challenge was to insert the relevant windows and glass into these exposed concrete cores, which are bent and round at the bottom. By carefully studying this theme with our metalworker, we were able to create this special detail, maintaining a high quality of the internal and external concrete.
Ortsspezifische Gestaltung
The kindergarten is part of the overall reorganization of the school and sports area. On the ground floor where the civil defense shelter and the sports fields are located, there are functional spaces such as the kitchen, storage rooms, technical rooms and service accesses. The pedestrian ramp that runs along the infrastructure wall connects the level of the sports fields to that of the school entrance. The kindergarten's protected garden and the public park are also located on this level.
Gestalterisch-räumliche Konzeption
The reading of the project is conceived on multiple levels, from the territorial scale to the child-friendly one. The four sections are characterized by a rhythm of full and empty spaces. The structure and the vertical connecting volumes define the four spaces of the sections of the Nursery School. The four entrances welcome the children in the atrium-cloakroom.
The stairs are distributed between each pair of sections, optimizing the circulation spaces and eliminating the corridors.
Durchdachtes Tragwerk
The double concrete wall was designed and built very carefully, especially where the insulation curves.
The other challenge was to build over an existing civil defence shelter, which we adapted and extended.
In this case, we considered efficient furniture so that these spaces could be used in both peacetime and wartime.
Umfassende Nachhaltigkeit
The School complies with the Minergie standard, it is equipped with an efficient opaque envelope combined with low-emissivity triple-glazed windows. Automated mobile external screens are provided for each facade based on radiation. Heat for heating is produced by an air-water heat pump and heating occurs via floor coils. Air exchange is guaranteed by mechanical ventilation, in addition, photovoltaic panels are arranged on the roof.
